At Redmond Ridge Pediatric Dentistry, we care about your child’s healthy smile, but also about keeping them comfortable, relaxed, and happy during their visit. For some people, a negative dental experience can lead to a lifetime of dental anxiety – making it difficult to receive the care that they need in the future.

Dr. Christine understands how important a positive, compassionate, and fun dental experience is for her young patients. Her gentle touch and warm chairside manner ensure that your child will have the best dental visit possible (and the best dental care!), but sedation with nitrous oxide or general anesthesia is available upon request.

Relax and Enjoy!

Whether your child is visiting us for a routine checkup or to have a cavity filled, we want to do everything possible to help them enjoy their visit. That’s why we offer…

  • An open bay area, where parents and siblings are more than welcome to come back for their child’s appointment. Private treatment areas are also available.
  • To show our patients around and let them look at and touch everything to satisfy their curiosity and concerns. If they have questions, we’re happy to talk with them and make sure they’re comfortable.
  • A soft, plush toy waiting to be held and snuggled in their dental chair
  • A television placed on the ceiling to help take their mind off of everything else going on
  • Toy towers and a prize wall full of surprises where they can get rewards at the end of the appointment

Mild Sedation with Nitrous Oxide

If your child is a bit anxious, we introduce them to “Mr. Nose,” a soft mask that rests over their nose. Through this mask, we administer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, to help them relax and feel at ease. With nitrous oxide, our young patients are responsive, yet they feel warm and floaty. Time seems to pass quickly and we’re done before they know it. Once the procedure is over, the effects of the laughing gas quickly subside and they’ll feel back to normal within minutes.

General Anesthesia

“When there are several cavities on baby teeth, the work to fix them is extensive and can take multiple visits. It could be difficult for some children. My job as a pediatric dentist is not just about fixing teeth, it is also about the ability to assess whether or not a child can tolerate complex treatment needs.

For kids who allow us to complete dental treatment, it is our responsibility to empower them and guide them through the treatments with all the skills we have. However, as true as it sounds, in reality, dental visits for some kids are not all sunny with rainbows and unicorns. Completing complex dental treatments in a single visit when they are asleep under general anesthesia eliminates that traumatizing experience for those who cannot tolerate extensive treatments.

As important as it is to maintain healthy smiles for your children, it is as important for me to safe-keep children’s psychological and emotional well-being.  I want them to have a happy visit. I feel like I’ve done my job right if I can have them walk out of the door smiling and wanting to come back for more visits.”

Rest Your Eyes For A Moment

When a young patient requires extensive dental work, Dr. Christine knows that a positive experience in a negative situation is important. To ensure that children don’t have traumatic visits, or struggle through complex, repeated procedures, we may recommend general anesthesia.

With the help of a general anesthesiologist, your child can enjoy “twilight sleep,” where they will be blissfully unaware of their ongoing dental treatment. For your child’s ultimate comfort, we’re able to offer this in our own practice, avoiding the trauma of a cold, sterile hospital. While your child naps, we can complete everything in one visit, so that multiple appointments aren’t necessary.
